How KUMO uses AWS

How AWS fits in a production build.

AWS is the default cloud for most KUMO engagements, and we are not neutral about it. Our own product CampaignHQ runs on AWS at production scale, delivering 50 million-plus messages at 99.9% uptime, and Volopay (YC S20) runs across six countries on AWS. Multi-region, HIPAA, and PCI patterns are muscle memory here, not first-time learnings.

Cloud-native AI

BedrockSageMaker

Bedrock puts Claude, GPT, Titan, and Llama behind one IAM boundary. That alone cuts the compliance work in half for regulated industries.

Elastic infrastructure

LambdaFargateECS

A workload that idles at $0 and scales to millions of requests without a redesign. It is what CampaignHQ runs on today.

Data residency

RDSAuroraKMS

30-plus AWS regions solve the multi-country compliance problem. The reason Volopay chose AWS as it scaled from India into UAE, Singapore, and beyond.

When AWS is the wrong choice, we say so. Vercel plus Supabase when it ships faster, Cloudflare Workers for edge cost, on-prem for hospitals and banks that cannot legally leave the country. Cloud-agnostic is our default; AWS is our preference.

What we build on AWS

What KUMO ships on AWS.

Bedrock

Bedrock-based AI agents

Claude, GPT, Titan, Llama behind one IAM boundary. HIPAA, PCI, SOC2 patterns baked in. Custom prompt caching to bring per-request cost 30 to 50% below naive setups.

Lambda + ECS

Elastic backends

Serverless-first for spiky workloads. ECS and Fargate for steady-state. Auto-scaling wired from day one. What CampaignHQ runs on.

RDS + Aurora

Production data layers

Multi-region RDS for compliance-sensitive data. Aurora Serverless for cost-sensitive workloads. Read replicas by region. Encryption via KMS everywhere.

SageMaker

Custom-model serving

SageMaker for hosted fine-tunes and open-source model deployment. GPU pools with auto-scaling. For workloads where the vendor-hosted APIs stop making financial sense.

How AWS compares

AWS vs your other options.

Choice Cost profile When it wins
Internal hiring $250K+/yr per senior + 5 months hiring lag You are big enough to have 3+ AWS-native engineers with headroom
Heroku / DigitalOcean Cheaper on paper, ~$50 to $500/mo Prototype phase or single-region low-compliance workloads

This is not a knock on Heroku or DigitalOcean, both are fine for the right workload. If you outgrow either, migrating to AWS is what we do. Typical migration engagement: 8 to 16 weeks with zero downtime.

Investment

What AWS-based builds cost.

Same two-tier engagement model as every KUMO build. On top of KUMO engineering costs, expect an AWS bill of roughly $200 to $8,000 per month for production workloads. KUMO forecasts your bill during scoping and applies cost patterns (reserved instances, Graviton, storage tiering) by default.

Larger scope

Fully Custom

$50K to $100K+

Multi-workflow production system, multi-region AWS deployment, full compliance. 16 to 24 weeks. Final quote after technical discovery.

Why KUMO fits.

Common questions

Common questions.

Is KUMO actually an AWS Partner?

Yes. KUMO is a Registered member of AWS Partner Network. Our engineering team includes AWS Certified Solutions Architects. Advanced tier upgrade is planned for Q4 2026.

Do you only deploy on AWS?

No. Cloud-agnostic by default. Google Cloud, Azure, Cloudflare Workers, regional providers (OVHcloud, Hetzner, Scaleway) all in production. AWS is the preferred default for growing businesses that need multi-region compliance and the broadest AI service catalog.

What does an AWS-based build cost end-to-end?

Engineering: $15K to $50K for a Custom Build, $50K to $100K for Fully Custom. AWS bill is usage-based, typically $200 to $8,000 per month for production. We forecast during scoping and apply cost-reduction patterns by default. Prompt caching alone typically cuts our clients’ Bedrock bills 30 to 50%.

Can KUMO help us migrate from another cloud to AWS?

Yes. We migrate from Heroku, DigitalOcean, on-prem, Azure, and GCP. Zero-downtime migrations with dual-write and gradual traffic shift. Typical migration engagement: 8 to 16 weeks.

What about AWS Bedrock, is it worth using vs calling Anthropic / OpenAI directly?

Bedrock is worth it when you need HIPAA / PCI / SOC2 compliance, single IAM boundary across model vendors, or private VPC endpoints. Direct API is worth it when you need the latest model day-one, or when the workload does not need enterprise compliance. KUMO picks per workload.

Do you handle SOC2 / HIPAA / PCI on AWS?

Yes. Compliance patterns are baked into our AWS architecture: VPC endpoints, KMS everywhere, CloudTrail plus Config, log-shipping to a dedicated compliance account. Volopay ships PCI-adjacent flows in production. Multiple healthcare clients have HIPAA-aware architecture.

Who owns the AWS account and the code?

You do. KUMO builds in your AWS Organization from day one. All source code, IaC (Terraform or CDK), and deploy configs in your GitHub. IAM handover on milestone payment.

Building on AWS?

30 minutes, no pitch deck. You describe the workload, we tell you honestly whether AWS is the right cloud and roughly what it would cost.
